Waiting on Wednesday - SPLINTERED by A.G. Howard

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. This week, I'm all excited for:

Splintered
by A.G. Howard

I have to be honest, I'm not usually a fan of covers with faces on the front. But this one. THIS one is absolutely stunning. Maybe it's because of the word "Wonderland" over her face. Maybe it's because I already know what the book is about.

Maybe it's simply stunning.

Here's the plot synopsis of this book, courtesy of Goodreads:

Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.

When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own.

!!!!

I am a MAJOR fan of Alice in Wonderland. By this I mean I watched the original Disney film last night, I have an Alice in Wonderland clock on my bedroom wall, and I drink out of an Alice in Wonderland juice glass most mornings. (Don't judge me.)

The thought of an Alice in Wonderland redux made me a tad worrisome when I first heard about Splintered. But I'm sold on the plot synopsis alone. A darker, more twisted Wonderland? The sexy but suspicious Morpheus? Everything about this book screams "amazing."
